My husband and I married in 2018, and we had the opportunity to go to Italy for our honeymoon. We began and ended our trip in Rome, and in between we had an amazing visit to Villa Martiena in Tuscany.
The Villa sits on a ridge outside of Montepulciano with views up to the historic town, and views out across the surrounding valleys. As we drove onto the Villa grounds, we were surrounded by olives trees. We pulled up to the cantina and the grand steps up to the Villa, and we were blown away by the views, the age and history of the Villa with its thick walls and cupola, and the warm welcome of the proprietors, Giorgio and Simon.
Giorgio and Simon are consummate hosts. They welcomed us into their beautiful home, and gave us our choice of spacious suites. They introduced us to the local farmer’s market, regional dishes, restaurants in town, and sites throughout the Val d’Orcia.
It’s a quick ride from the Villa to Pienza, Montalcino, Siena, and Cortona. With Giorgio and Simon’s guidance we had a wonderful stay in Tuscany! We can’t wait to return.
Absolutely breathtaking experience with Villa Martiena and our hosts Giorgio and Simon! Communication before and during our travels was timely, efficient, Informative and very FUN! The accommodations were unbelievable and blew away our expectations.
The Villa is an amazing place surrounded by the beautiful Tuscan landscape. The Villa has been restored and has been tastefully decorated. The main dining room is a place you can only experience in person.
The arrival, departure and side trips we took: Venice, Florence, Cortona, Arezzo, Montalcino, Pienza, Siena, San Gimignano, and Montepulciano were professional organized, excellent day adventures, and flexible for us as a group. The food and wine experience was beyond words - simple breakfast daily, lunches at perfect spots during our day trips and dinners at the Villa were spectacular 4-5 course delights.
This trip, the first for our family to Italy, exceeded our expectations in every way. We highly recommend Villa Martiena stay, for any group event (ours was Tuscany wine tour).
If you are looking for an idyllic destination in Tuscany you must book your next Italian vacation at Villa Martiena; in the heart of Montepulciano. The hosts, Giorgio Ceceres and Simon Pastucha ensure that your every comfort is met in their lovingly restored 14-room historic villa and take every measure possible to show you all the treasures of Tuscany.
Each of the newly renovated en suite accommodations boast king size beds with luxurious bedding, personal café makers, windows with a view and a private, resort experience in a villa setting. From wine tasting in Montalcino to cheese savoring in Pienza, not to mention truffle hunting just out the back door, you will look forward to each day’s adventure.
Take a short 10 minute walk into Montepulciano town where the local shops, restaurants and wineries nestled into the iconic, rustic hillside provide a neighborhood experience to your Italian getaway. Better yet, wander up to the expansive outdoor market just at the cusp of town for all the Italian delicacies and “bargains” you just can’t pass up. There really is no more convenient or beautifully situated location in Tuscany than Villa Martiena.
I’d be reticent to not expound on the Villa grounds and services. One of the only villas in Montepulciano with a full size pool that sits overlooking the majestic Tuscan hillside, you feel as though you are part of a movie scene when relaxing in its infinity edge expanse. Not to mention the meticulously kept grounds are covered with olive trees (from which the owners produce their own single pressed Olive Oil), the window boxes overflow with natural beauty and the views are, just simply, never ending across the vast valley.
Lastly, let’s talk food and beverage- for we are talking Italy after all! At Villa Martiena, Giorgio and Simon go above and beyond to offer the highest quality meals and exceptional service as if you are at a 5-Star resort. From all you can drink lattes in the am to “nothing but the best” regional wines throughout the day you will certainly not go thirsty. Drinks, accompanied by locally sourced, farm to table regional cuisine prepared by their personal chef guarantee you will not go home skinnier (but certainly happier) than you left.
In short, Villa Martiena is special and a “must experience” for three reasons, the hosts, the experiences and the memories made (and cherished). Hence, it’s also a “must go back again” place.
